Description:
Overall Purpose
Flints sell and hire various items that are deemed suitable for lifting purposes. To ensure these items conform to specification it will be the Rigging Manager’s responsibility to thoroughly examine the goods on entry to the building prior to being released for sale. The checked certification needs to be loaded onto our Lifting Database so that individual certificates can be produced for each sale item. Any non-complying stock needs to be followed up for correct certification whilst the goods are held in a quarantine area or returned to the manufacturer as being unsuitable for purpose. The rigging manager will be in full charge of the Lifting Database and will be responsible for training sales staff so they are competent to issue the correct certificates for the lifting gear.
They will carry out “Between Hire” and “Thorough Examinations” of lifting gear as necessary. The Rigging Manager will also be in charge of making wire rope assemblies, proof loading them if applicable, dimensional checking, individual marking and issuing appropriate certification. They will also be asked to splice natural and synthetic ropes both of braided and three strand construction. The Rigging Manager will answer technical queries concerning PPE equipment for working at height including harnesses, lanyards, anchors, karabiners etc.
Key Duties
• After goods are received by Goods In the Rigging Manager will check the goods thoroughly and ensure the certification is appropriate and correct.
• In particular the Rigging Manager will ensure the batch/individual numbers, working load limits, product description, CE markings, and instructions are all in accordance with the certification.
• The Rigging Manager will visually examine goods before release paying attention to missing nuts, split pins, clevis pins, spring clips, shackle pins etc as well as ensuring the goods received are in new condition.
• Prior to release for sale the certificates will be filed and loaded onto the database as appropriate.
• The Rigging Manager will be responsible for backing up the database at least once a week and storing the information off site.
• The Rigging Manager will be responsible for carrying out fibre rope splices. These splices will conform to industrial practice and may be in braided or stranded ropes. All splices should be repeatable with the same result. The splices should be recorded in a Splicing Log Book with the method, batch of rope, date, number of tucks, tapered or not and whippings.
• The Rigging Manager will be responsible for making wire rope assemblies, proof loading if applicable, dimensionally checking, individually marking and issuing certification.
• The calibration of all test equipment must be kept in date and precautions should be taken to ensure we are not left without crucial equipment during busy periods.
• The Rigging Manager will be responsible for handling all technical inquiries regarding rigging gear and PPE working at height equipment. They will be expected to be completely familiar with all the lifting and associated gear that Flints sell and hire.
• The Rigging Manager will ensure that the workshop area is always well stocked, kept tidy and safe and that all machinery is serviced ready for use.
• The Rigging Manager will ensure that Flints Technical File is kept up to date with any changes to specification.
• The Rigging Manager will carry out dimensional compliance checks on all Flints own lifting and associated products against the most recent technical drawing. Goods not conforming will be embargoed in the Quarantine Area and Alasdair Flint and John Joyce (Head Buyer) will be notified.
• The Rigging Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the Lifting Gear and Personal Protective Gear are stored in a tidy and organised manner.
• The Rigging Manager will be allocated sales orders which have lifting gear components as appropriate. The Rigging Manager will spend approximately two weeks working in the sales department as an induction and a week in Goods In prior to taking on the Rigging Managers role so that he/she is familiar with the goods in, sales and dispatch functions.
